The Theft of the Spirit is rooted in the author's experiences with the Hopi Indians and how learning the Hopi's worship rituals helped him grow as a healer. This book that suggests one should "see" life differently. "See" with your heart, not your head and your faith will grow. I liked this book, because as a hiker, I feel God's healing spirit in nature.
Great read, especially timely given our political climate. Anyone inyterested in healing, in Native American spirituality and the viewpoint of a traditional but inclusive doctor will love this book.
Text introduces some valuable views on being more aware in relationships and spiritually. Stories colorful but sometimes wander through a little confusing abstraction before getting to main points.

The title of this review although may sound dramtic, it is true. My history of being sexually abused at a young age scarred my soul. I pursued a variety of treatment modalities. Meeting Dr, Hammerschlag and participating in his Turtle Island Project was an awakening and moved me on a path of healing. Theft of the Spirit is a wonderful muse for anyone. Inspiring, It propelled me to write, " Above His Shoulders " my true account of sexual abuse and my own healing. I reference all of Dr. Hammerschlag books in my memoir.
Theft of the Spirit, by Carl Hammerschlag, is one of the most powerful and helpful books I have ever read. In fact, I have just finished reading it for the eight time. Each time I have read it I learn something new. As my life changes, the meaningfulness of the book also changes. In addition to my own readings, I have probably purchased at least 20 copies and gifted friends and people in need of strength and encouragement at times of crises. Every person has responded with great thanks and gratitude. People who have been sick and/or dying, have found the book to be inspirational. Some are still thanking me many years later, when I see them after a long time. I could go on with more, but the point to make is the great value of this book to people who realizes that they are in need of comfort and encouragement.
I purchased this book many years ago in the print version. This book really opened my eyes in so many ways. Dr. Hammerschlag is a gifted man and the book reads as a "conversation" direct with him. I am glad this book is now available for my kindle.
